Last week I was at the meeting for Hyde Park Council. The meeting was short and we had the Grand Secretary of MA as the speaker for the night. A lot of the talk focused on how we sell Masonry to cheaply here. That I am sure we can hash over in some thread somewhere.

The fun part for this group came after the meeting at the collation.

I was approached by one of the Brethren who works at Grand Lodge. He asked me if I had heard of the idea of a Traditional Observance Lodge. When I told him I had he continued with pointing out that he was getting one approved for MA. We then talekd about it some more. Given that he gets to wear a purple apron at Grand Lodge I am guessing the application from his group is fast-tracked. I pointed out that I knew others that have similar interests.

So, if someone else was getting a charter for a traditional observance Lodge in MA would folks here still be interested?

I think everyone on here ought to be interested. That's the entire point of this community, right?

Yes, it is.

I'm really pissed this isn't something that got greater publicity from the GL.

If the GLMA is in favor of this one, then I'm going to make a very cynical guess. I think that *they* think that "Traditional Observance" means everybody in tuxes, very high dues, fairly wealthy membership, and very substantial contributions to whatever the GL is calling their current effort to squeeze more funds out of their members.

Yes, I'm very old and very cynical now, aren't I? But I've had dealings with the current MW before, and I've earned my cynicism. This group wouldn't be wrong to keep quietly and patiently tilling their own field, without any big boost from Well-Connected People Wearing Purple.

I'd love to be wrong about this.

See, I'm not sure that MRF will let anyone use the TO label if they don't follow the model that MRF uses.

I have no problem with everyone in tuxes and higher dues - what we obtain too cheaply, we value less.

Gary, are you on the esoteric masonic community mailing list on Yahoo groups?

Also, do YOU have any interest in participating in a TO Lodge along the lines of the MRF model?

At the risk of sounding absent minded: I'm absent minded. Someone please remind me what a Traditional Observance lodge is?

I would be interested. I think it's great that people in the Grand lodge are thinking about this. I truly think that the pot is starting to boil in a positive way.

Take a look at the Masonic restoration foundation site. I guess the Harvard Lodge is in the process of doing something interesting:
